 Protesters raid supermarket owned by Kenyan lawmaker who voted in favour of increased tax

 

 The Increased tax Bill that has set Kenya on fire is digging deep as protesters are not going back on their decisions until the Government revises the bill.


The Controversial Finance Bill has cost both the Government and the citizens after it was reported that over 5 protesters has lost their lives and also, the investment of One of the Parliamentarian who is allegedly in strong support of the Bill was terribly damaged .

 

On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, a group of protesters in Nyeri raided Kieni Member of Parliament Njoroge Wainaina’s supermarket after he voted in favour of the controversial Finance Bill 2024.

 

In a video shared online, the protesters were seen storming Chieni Supermarket, looting various items including household goods and food products. The angry mob also vandalised property, destroying furniture and throwing stones at the windows before setting the supermarket on fire.

 

Anti-riot police officers quickly arrived at the scene, deploying teargas to disperse the crowd and control the chaos. Firefighters soon joined the efforts to extinguish the fire.

 

The protests, initially centred in Nyeri, have spread to other parts of the country, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, Kericho, and Eldoret, indicating widespread discontent with the Finance Bill 2024.

Kanya Police is in control and trying to bring peace to the Country, says spokes pers, Jonhson Barkaasum.
