ASUU and Federal Governmnet Fight Continues As Strike Gains More 12 Weeks
ASUU Strike receives new shape after Nigeria Labour Congress and Civil Society Organisation joined force with ASUU to send an impressive package to Federal Government last week. The impressive package was scheduled for two days and it worked as planned to the shock of Government and it has finally produced an additional 12 weeks continuation showing its intensity.
According to Channel New, National Executive Council of ASUU appreciated the historic nationwide protest which took place on 26th and 27th July
2022 organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in collaboration
with Civil Society Organisations (CSO) to further create awareness on
the Government of Nigeria ruling class to destroy public education.
ASUU renews its commitment to the struggles of NLC in championing the
cause of the working and suffering Nigerians.
Noting that the body conveyed an emergency National Executive Committee meeting of the association at the University of Abuja on Sunday, the ASUU President, Prof Emmanuel Osodike said the extension is with immediate effect on August 1 till Federal Government concludes arrangement to sign the agreement between ASUU and them to enable Students go back to school.
“Following extensive deliberations and taking cognisance of Government’s past failures to abide by its own timelines in addressing issues raised in the 2020 FGN/ASUU Memorandum of Action (MOA), NEC resolved that the strike be rolled over for four weeks to give Government more time to satisfactorily resolve all the outstanding issues. The roll-over strike action is with effect from 12.01 am on Monday, 1st August 2022,” the statement read.
