Wike Made Bold Of Rain Coalition As He Invites Critics To See His Works In Abuja
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged those who do not understand the Rainbow Coalition to educate themselves about it — or visit the FCT to witness its operations firsthand.
“Those who don’t understand what the Rainbow Coalition means should go and learn. If you cannot go to school to learn about it, then come to the FCT and see for yourself what the Rainbow Coalition is all about,” Wike said.
The Rainbow Coalition is a cross-party political platform championed by Wike. It brings together politicians from the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties primarily to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. Members retain their individual party identities and may back different candidates for other elective offices.
Wike has repeatedly described the arrangement as a model of political cooperation that prioritises shared goals over partisan rivalry. He has said the coalition has reduced political hostility and promoted stability in the FCT and Rivers State by enabling APC and PDP leaders to work together on common objectives, including infrastructure development and electoral mobilisation.
The minister has positioned the FCT as a practical demonstration of the model, pointing to joint stakeholder meetings, cross-party endorsements of candidates, and collaborative efforts in support of Tinubu and selected National Assembly aspirants. He has also encouraged other states to adopt a similar approach, arguing that it could help reduce violence and division in Nigerian politics.
The initiative has drawn mixed reactions. While supporters credit it with fostering inclusivity and expanding Tinubu’s support base beyond the APC, some APC governors have expressed concerns that it could create divided loyalties or weaken the ruling party’s structures. Wike has maintained that the coalition does not seek to undermine the APC and that President Tinubu is aware of its activities.
As political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, Wike continues to promote the Rainbow Coalition as a practical alternative to rigid party divisions, inviting sceptics to observe its workings in the Federal Capital Territory.
