Nigerians Replies NLC After Calling Them To Comeout In Mass On August 2nd For National Protest Against Federal Government Policies

Nigerians on social media have reacted to a call made by the National Labour Congress NLC for them to stop lamenting and come out en-mass on Wednesday August 2 for its proposed protest against govt policies.

Last week, the Nigeria Labour Congress issued a seven-day ultimatum to the President Bola Tinubu administration to reverse “all anti-poor” people policies including the hike in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) known as petrol otherwise it will be embarking on a nationwide protest at the Unity fountain in Abuja on August 2.

In a communique at the end of its Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting held on Tuesday, July 25,  the labour union threatened to embark on a nationwide protest from Wednesday, August 2, 2023 should the Federal Government fail to do the needful. The NLC said the Federal Government has shown “enormous disdain and contempt for the Nigerian people and have declared a war of attrition on Nigerian workers and masses.”

On Sunday, the NLC via its Twitter handle asked Nigerians to stop lamenting and come out enmass on Wednesday, August 2 to join in the protest.

While reacting to NLC's call, some Nigerians expressed doubts in the capability of the NLC leadership to pull through with the NLC protest. They allege that the NLC will be ‘’compromised'' on August 1 and will call the protest off on August 1. Others alleged that the NLC is working to do the bidding of the Labour party.
