PDP National Party Chairman: Wike Fights For South South To Produce Chairman, While Babatope Wants South-West

Babatope, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, has described as provocative the adoption of Mr. Uche Secondus for the party’s national chairmanship position by the South-South stakeholders as provocative and divisive.

Babatope, in a statement he personally signed on Tuesday, said the South-South stakeholders were being unfair to the South-West, whose turn, according to him, was to produce the next PDP national chairman.

Babatope who claimed that it is the turn of the South- West to produce national chairman of the party is in a great battle with Governor Wike and Makafi for backing Uche Secondus against the South West.

He described the action of the South-South stakeholders as divisive and berated the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, over his claim that the South-South was providing succour to the PDP.

In his displeasure, Babatope also accused the Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee, Ahmed Makarfi, of dishonesty, said he should not be involved in the composition of members of the committees for the party’s convention.

He added, “The crass insistence and the insulting protestation of Governor Nyesom Wike that the South-South is the zone providing succour to the PDP is rather crude and insensitive. And it is not true. Right from the formation of the party, the Yoruba people have been consistent in their devotion and loyalty to the party. And they have been very supportive in financial fillip to the party.

He also demanded that Makafi should not be allowed to be involved in any committee to avoid his manipulation against candidature of the national chairman of the party.

“Now the very fundamental fabric and dominating principle of the party is torn asunder. We are no longer at ease.

“The pronouncement of the South-South Stakeholders is not only provocative, it is divisive, skewed, untidy, and a blatant slide into tribal political arrangement. Do they think the good people of Oduduwa land will just sit down and take it? They are dead wrong.” Babatope said.
