It was gathered that the Niger Delta University student demonstrated in the school that led to the closing down of the school for sometime.

The student demonstrated because of the new academic policy that the school senate introduced . That if the students in Engineering schools fails three departmental curses, they will be withdrawn from the department to another department that is no more engineering.

The situation is still worsen because till now the school management has not done anything about it, and the school is still under lock and key. Students that are not engineering students now suffered the same fate even when they where not primarily concerned.

STUDENTS ON RAMPAGE

Parents and some stakeholders especially the host community Amasoma in Bayalsa state is calling on the Government of Bayalsa state to intervene in this situation for peace and normal academic and economic activities to be restored.

Source : a senor staff of the school said what fueled the violence was because many students from engineering faculty where seriously affected as a result of the implementation of the new school’s policy.He said the students affected could be about 25 students at their 200 levels.

He also said the riots was as a result of frustration.
