Senator Abe Speaks In Opuoko: "What Our Fathers Laboured For Is Bearing Fruit"

"What Buhari has done for us, APC is not suppose to come and beg for votes. We should freely give them our votes. President Buhari has shown it to the world that he loves Ogoni people. Amaechi has shown it. APC has shown it. We too should show our gratitude and be grateful to them so that they can do more. Our support in this election can propel them to do more.

"Dr Dinebari Loolo is my younger brother. If I have anything he can also get it. It was through him I know my beautiful Wife. I hope you know my wife is from Khana here? You know the whole world is waiting to see what Ogoni people will do in this election. They are waiting to see whether we love ourselves or not. Our votes would determine whether we get sense or not. We should therefore demonstrate a high sense of unity.
"Now, when we where in PDP, a delegation was send from Ogoni -- Mosop president, Kagote president, King Ginninwa and other leaders -- to meet Jonathan. When we had the opportunity and we pleaded with Ameachi to bring Buhari to Ogoni, people went to block the road. They were shooting guns, they said we could not come to Bori with Buhari. I didn't want us to fight, so I said let us go to Saakpenwa.

"When Buhari came and saw the number and calibre of people that gathered, the man had no choice, his heart was moved with mercy. And he said, even though we were a small fraction of people, Nigeria had not treated us fairly. He said, if God made him president, he must remember Ogoni people and implement the UNEP report. People begin to now shout, why APC? Why APC? They should realize that we risked our lives fighting for this. Wike went on Radio and Television stations and said, if senator Abe says he is behind the successful implementation of UNEP Report, he should be arrested. How can Wike arrest me? Is it possible? (Crowd chorus "Noooo!")

"You cannot arrest somebody in Nigeria for telling the truth. Under our criminal code, telling the truth is not a crime. Buhari came because of APC. He promised the Clean-up because of APC. It is a campaign promise made in the cause of campaigning for APC, and he is fulfilling it to the Glory of God. All legitimate sons and daughters of Ogoni have right to participate in that project.

"Since we started the struggle, people had sponsored disunity in Ogoni. They have sponsored all sort of things to derail our struggle. But God had been faithful, God had been consistent. Because of the noise our Heroes made on Resource Control and the death of Late Ken Saro Wiwa, the government decided to set up a commission to address the issues of Niger Delta. But since when the commission was established. No Ogoni man had ever worked in that place. We have made moves, no place we have not gone to. We went to the Villa and Jonathan told us that it was because of our heroes struggle that NDDC was established. He said, it is because of Ogoni struggle that the whole Niger Delta struggle made sense. But what did he give us, nothing!

"Today, the same Buhari that brought the UNEP cleanup had also remember us in NDDC. He has nominated one of our sons, Chief Derek Mene as Executive Director Finance and Account. That is the Biggest position available to Rivers state in NDDC.

"The clean-up is to start with over N300bn. Nothing Wike will give us that will stop us from thanking President Buhari who did all these things. We thank God that Buhari had remembered us. We thank God that, for the first time, the Dream and Expectations of our Fathers is beginning to bear fruits.

"Harvest your brothers and sisters in our sister party. Nothing is happening in that party. I can see them, even the Commissioners are complaining.

"Finally, I don't want to talk about Gov Wike again. But if he talks to me, I will talk to him. He is not contesting election in our senatorial district. As Leader of his party, he is free to campaign for Hon Olaka Worgu. But when Wike come to Ogoni, he should tell us what Hon Olaka has done for Eleme, Tai and Oyigbo because he represented them for 12yrs. Then when he is finished, he should tell Ogoni people and the entire Rivers southeast senatorial district what he intend to do for us. Olaka was in the Senate for some months, how many people could call him on phone and he answer them? All those people should now campaign for him. If Wike comes to Ogoni nation and campaign in that manner, I will not be angry.

"For me, I run this election on my own Record. I have represented the people of this Senatorial district for 4 years, and I have my record in every LGA. When I visited Andoni, the people are happy with me for the things I have done. They would always say, since they elected Senators, they have not seen any Senator that come back after election. Usually, when they elected Senators, they would not see them until next election. But me, I was in Andoni when things happened to them, I was there. I supported them in whatever little way I could, I shared with them. The same thing in Oyigbo, Khana, Gokana, Opobo, and Tai.

"I have told Wike before that there is nothing his mother told him and our mother did not tell us. There is nothing WIKE can do that we cannot do it better. He should take it easy, campaign for his party and allow us to campaign too. More importantly, nobody should go to the polling units and sponsor Avengers. In this election we don't want violence. Avengers are for the Pipelines, don't bring Avengers to the polling units. Nobody should do that, let us create an atmosphere conducive for election where the people of Rivers southeast senatorial district can freely exercise their franchise. Where they can vote and vote in peace.

You are my strength. The voice of the people is the voice of God. Once God has spoken, no man can unsay what God has said. And you people are the Voice of God.
