Shariff Faction Of Edo State PDP Spits More Fire
According to Naij.com,the embattled Sheriff Faction of the PDP in Edo state has refused the candidature of Ize.
Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, a key member of
Sheriff’s faction, speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, July 13, described INEC’s decision
to accept Ize-Iyamu as a “mere rumour.” Ojougboh while receiving a delegation
of professionals from the South-South geopolitical zone who called to declare
support for the Sheriff camp said: “We heard a rumour making the rounds that
INEC has accepted another person as candidate of the PDP for the Edo State
governorship election.
I hereby dispel the rumor and categorically state that
INEC has not yet communicated the decision to us.” He said the electoral body
was still considering all judgements and court orders arising from the party’s
lingering leadership crisis.

Ojougboh added that the Federal High Court in Abuja had specifically asked INEC
to recognise only candidates presented by the Sheriff camp. A faction led by
Ali Modu Sheriff had submitted the name of Matthew Iduoriyekwemwen as its
candidate for the September 10 elections, after the Makarfi led faction had
submitted Ize-Iyamu’s name.
The PDP has been rocked by an internal crisis, with
two factions laying claim to the party’s national leadership.
The Ali Modu Sheriff-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has rejected the recognition given to Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the party’s candidate in the gubernatorial election. Ize-Iyamu was on Tuesday, July 12, accepted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as PDP’s candidate in the September 10 governorship election in Edo state.
