No Salary, No Work!!!! Was the song chanted by civil servant in Ondo state. The working has refused to go to work because of not been paid for 5 months today.
The strike excess that started since 1 June, was taking to a height today as the workers blocked the entrance to the Ondo state Government house. The government house was blocked by the aggrieved worker.
The Governor pleaded with the workers to go back to work that is not his intention to own workers salary but the economy of the country is struggling for now. He said, I understand what it means to work for 5 months without salary mostly in the state where the economy depends on salary.
The Governor pleaded with the workers that He can be able to pay the Health,Teachers and local government worker but the workers union and the head of State Joint negotiation term, Sunday Adeleye refused the Governors plead.
Governor Mimiko told the workers to respect the government commitment not to retrench any worker even in the mist of the dwindling economy.
The governor challenged the workers to see the present economy challenge in the country to be for all and for the entire people to proffer solution to it.
According to Punch, The Governor said, " I have nothing against your protest because we are in a difficult time, I can not imagine some one working for 5 months without salary", " Your protest has been peaceful and that is what democracy is all about, but we must know the truth because is the truth that will set us free", said the Governor.
He said people must express their view and be giving the chance to be heard.
