The Lagos state Governor, Gov. Ambode has declared the popular mile 12 market that is mostly dominated by Igbos traders closed as the Hausa and Yuruba communities fought yesterday.
The clash that took place yesterday resulted the destruction of houses and churches.
The Governor while answering question in Lagos State Government house ordered the market to be closed and he restricted movement around the place.
He said”In order to restore calmness in the area, I have closed the mile 12 market and imposed curfew on major streets around the mile 12 market.
The Governor admitted that there was dispute between the communities and the market members but he has called relevant security agents to take care of the place to security lives and property tand to ensure peace in the state.
From source,a resident,Mr. Kabiro Kolawale, said the police shot directly at the men and injured some of them.
He said, “The Yoruba had to run back and that created an opportunity for the Hausa to enter into the community to wreak havoc.
“The Hausa, backed by the soldiers and the police, set schools on fire and started burning vehicles in Agiliti. When they were done, they broke into Maidan community and burnt 15 houses, including a church.

“They chased a carpenter, Riliwan, and after catching up with him, they cut him with machetes. They poured fuel on him and set him on fire. He was burnt to death.”
Our correspondent saw the burnt corpse of the victim, covered with a cardboard paper.
The only link bridge into the community was also destroyed by the rampaging Hausa.
A church, PODAM, was equally torched and some of their equipment vandalised.
A shop owner, Mrs. Bilikis Yusuf, said she lost two of her sewing machines and some money.
“The Hausa have ruined my life. They looted my industrial machine, black machine and stole thousands of naira from my wardrobe. Where will I start from?” she asked.
Kosiue gathered that properties of the people where destroyed and market goods worths billions where destroyed. The people looked unto the Government of Lagos State to come to their aids as they no longer have any miss of livelihood.
However, the Igbos complained bitterly because they are the most victims of the situation since they are the most affected people in the crisis.
